Stoney Point is part of a loop off of the old highway 61. It’s one of my favorite places on the north shore. There’s some picturesque old buildings along a rocking shore:
And then there’s an outcropping of smooth rock – I haven’t brushed up on my local geology, but I think it might be from lava flows, worn down by waves:
It’s pretty mesmerizing to watch the waves crash over them – the remind me of Henry Moore’s bone sculptures, or abstract reclining figures:
It’s amazing how this little tiny area can have so many different kinds of shoreline: a few feet from these smoothly-worn rocks are rough, lichen-covered out-croppings.
There was only one member of our family that didn’t seem to care for the lake views:
